Rationale:

The offset will result in the planting of 900 trees (mix of tuart and peppermint trees) within an area of approxiamtely 2.7 hectares of the Lot authorised to be cleared under the Permit.

The offset will result in a net gain of native vegetation considered suitable as black cockatoo habitat. This offset is considered to be relevant and proportionate to the significance of the environmental value being impacted, mitigating the residual impacts of the project.

Milestone:

Implementation Milestone 1 - relates to Condition Milestone 2

In accordance with the approved offset proposal, Carbone Bros Pty Ltd is to implement the “Pit Rehabilitation and Maintenance Management Plan, Lot 5 Old Coast Road, Myalup, June 2013” which includes, but is not limited to, the following requirements:

Site preparation:
- ground preparation including contouring and ripping
- initial weed management

Vegetation establishment:
- planting of 900 trees including tuart and peppermint trees

Monitoring:
- for physical stability of the landform, success of germination and emergence of weeds
- using survival counts

Remedial actions:
- weed control
- repair of erosion damage
- replanting/seeding areas that may not have regenerated

Completion criteria:
- successful establishment of 100% of all plants after 4 years
- site is sustainable in the long term without additional management inputs
Timeframe:

Site preparation: prior to vegetation establishment.
Vegetation establishment: Site 1 2015-17, Site 2 2017-19, Site 3 2019-21.
Monitoring: on a weekly basis just after planting and annually thereafter.
Remedial actions: as required.
