Residual impact

Loss of 0.195 hectares of native vegetation in good to very good (Keighery 1994) condition that includes:
- suitable habitat for the Western Ringtail Possum.
- significant remnant vegetation (Beard Vegetation Association 1000 which has approximately 26% remaining) in an extensively cleared landscape.

3. Revegetation

The Permit Holder shall establish and maintain peppermint trees (Agonis flexuosa) in an area that the Permit Holder has lawful access to located within one kilometre of the area to be cleared in accordance with the following conditions:
(a) for every peppermint tree (Agonis flexuosa) cleared two peppermint trees (Agonis flexuosa) are to be established and maintained; and
(b) planting is to be completed within twelve months of clearing any area authorised under this Permit.

Rationale:

The offset will result in the rehabilitation of an area within one kilometre of the approved clearing area with peppermint trees (Agonis flexuosa) at the ratio of 2:1 (two peppermint trees shall be planted for every peppermint tree cleared). The offset will result in a net gain of peppermint trees which are suitable as habitat for the Western Ringtail Possum.

This offset is considered to be relevant and proportionate to the significance of the environmental value being impacted, mitigating the residual impacts of the project.
