Residual impact

Loss of up to 0.52 hectares of native vegetation in good to excellent (Keighery 1994) condition that includes:
- vegetation significant as a remnant in an extensively cleared local area (Beard Vegetation Association 990 of which 18% remains).
- vegetation containing significant habitat for the Western Ringtail Possum.
Offset conditions

1. Revegetation

The Permit Holder shall establish and maintain peppermint trees (Agonis flexuosa) within the area cross hatched red on attached Plan 4916/2b in accordance with the following conditions:
(a) for every peppermint tree (Agonis flexuosa) cleared two peppermint trees (Agonis flexuosa) are to be established and maintained; and
(b) planting is to commence within twelve months of clearing any area authorised under this Permit.

Rationale:

This offset will result in the rehabilitation of suitable habitat for the Western Ringtail Possum within close proximity to the area being cleared.

The offset will result in a net gain of Agonis flexuosa at the ratio of 2:1, meaning for every tree cleared two are required to be planted. This offset is considered to be relevant and proportionate to the significance of the environmental value being impacted, mitigating the residual impacts of the project.

Note: The City of Busselton is also undertaking other offset activities within this offset location (approximately an 8 hectare area) to offset clearing permit CPS 4789/1.

Security arrangements:

Lot 46 on Plan 193608, Crown Reserve 1079, is a recreation and community purposes reserve vested with the City of Busselton for the land use of community centre and railway.
