Limestone Building Block Company has applied to clear up to 6.9 hectares of native vegetation for the expansion of limestone mining operations.

Vegetation and topsoil will be cleared using a bulldozer. The vegetation and topsoil will be stockpiled separately for use in rehabilitation.

- Loss of 2.7 hectares of feeding habitat for Carnaby's Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus latirostris) (listed as 'rare or likely to become extinct' under the Wildlife Conservation Act 1950 and 'endangered' under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999).
- Loss of 2.7 hectares of native vegetation from an extensively cleared landscape (i.e. underrepresented vegetation).
- Loss of 2.7 hectares of native vegetation that has value as an ecological stepping stone between vegetated remnants and nearby conservation areas in an extensively cleared landscape.

Prior to undertaking any clearing authorised under this permit, the Permit Holder shall contribute
documentary evidence to the CEO that funding of $20,000 has been transferred to the Department of Parks
and Wildlife to purchase land for the purpose of establishing or maintaining vegetation.

Rationale:

The offset will result in the acquisition and protection of remnant native vegetation at an offset ratio of 6:1. The offset site will exhibit the following values:
- a high level of biodiversity in the context of the local area;
- Black Cockatoo foraging habitat.

The implementation of the offset will counterbalance the residual impacts of the clearing and satisify the requirement that the environmental values of the offset site should be the same as, or better than those of the area of native vegetation being cleared.
