Note: On 30 June 2015, the former Department of Environment Regulation (DER) approved the clearing of 5.31 hectares of native vegetation for the Albany Highway Tunney passing lanes project. The approval was subject to an offset condition requiring the provision of $70,000 to DER for the acquisition of 35 hectares of native vegetation for the purpose of conservation. The payment was made in full on 15 September 2015.
 
Following receipt of the funds, DER made a number of enquiries with the former Department of Parks and Wildlife (DPaW) in an attempt to identify a suitable property for acquisition. No suitable properties were identified through those enquiries. Given this, MRWA committed to identifying a suitable property.
 
In a letter of 27 April 2020, Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) advised that three sites on the old Tunney townsite (Reserve numbers R29057 (areas 1 and 2), R18335 (area 3) and R29056 (area 4)) were identified as potential offset options. 
 
Native Vegetation Regulation Branch (NVR) has assessed the proposed alternative offset, including a review of the rehabilitation plan, and considers that it more than counterbalances the impacts of the approved clearing.
